Lawrence County's
Hero's
Robert E. Lee Armory National Guard Unit's
Deployment
County wide honor
for the Reservist of the
Robert E. Lee National Guard
Unit in Walnut Ridge
performed upon the lawn of the Walnut Ridge
County Court House with members of the
Robert E. Lee National Guard Unit in
presence receiving our gratification and
honor from all the citizens
gathered to see the Hero's of our communities and work
places
as they prepare to
depart to active duty October 10, 2003.
Be sure to check this space on a photo show
of the reception
of OUR TROOPS returning HOME!
A Hero's Reception
The community turned out for the reception of the members of
the Robert E. Lee Armory National Guard's
that was held at Stewart Park in
Walnut Ridge in a effort to show the appreciation and gratitude that
the
recent Heroes of Lawrence County has returned unscathed.
The VFW
from Pocahontas was present to present the flag at the beginning of the
festivities in honor
and appreciation to those who have recently returned
from a tour of duty over seas as well as to honor
and remember all members of
the Armed Forces that had returned or perished in previous wars
of WWI, WWII,
Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm and now Iraq.
Bro. Dale Huggard, who
provided the invocation, summed it up by stating that we were all thankful
to
God for his Grace and watchful eye on those who were taken from the
community when called to war.
Bro. Huggard also made mention of his and the
community's appreciation for a job well done in the
name of Freedom and
Democracy on foreign soil as well as a hardy WELCOME HOME!
The
festivities began following the role call by the Commander of the Guard Unit and
hamburgers, hotdogs
ice cream, drinks and chips were provided for the
uniformed men and their families who had also faced
adversity here at home
with worry and prayers for the return of their loved ones. The heat of the
morning
and afternoon didn't place a damper on activities participated in by
the Guard Unit and their families.
Although I missed the afternoons activities and do not have
photographs of the three legged race
nor the cow chip toss, I'm sure fun was
the order for the day which was evident by the smiles on
the faces of those
who attended as well as the men and women who were honored by the day's
reception.
All of Lawrence County is relieve to have their brave
soldiers back home where they can resume
their family lives and regain their
place in the community.

MudStock 06 - Mar 18, 2006MudStock 06, the first
simi annual MudStock at Delaplaine, Arkansas on March 18th, 2006, was a
dirty time success. There were Fords, Dodges, Jeeps, Chevys, ATVs, knee
boots and chest high waders
dotting the fields where all the muddy
automotive action commenced. Clumps and strings of mud flew through
the air
as drivers of all vehicles tested their mechanical rides and their driving
skills in the recently dried
fields set up for a day's fun. Trucks that tried
to pass through the slough where the mud had been churned
time and time
again that resulted in a pit of despair for most vehicles that had to be
retrieved from the cold
muddy water by a Ford tractor there for just such
occasions. If you missed this year's MudStock 06 be sure
to mark your
calendar for next year or watch the local newspaper or keep a ear out for the
next MudStock
to be announced later this year once the crops have been
harvested.

Easter Egg hunt. Prizes
were given away with specially selected plastic eggs that the children
would

bit slower, the eldest group acted like a
vacuum cleaner, quickly cleaning their roped off area. It appeared
that
everyone enjoyed the Easter egg hunt at the park. would find and then redeem

unknown origin. Up on arrival, the volunteers quickly put out any remaining
fire. The surveillance camera that
the owners had recently installed due to
vandals breaking into the cash machine at the car wash showed a truck
and
it's driver apparently trying to put out what looked like a fire in the truck
when the diesel that was either
leaking from the truck or the machinery on
the truck ignited and caught the first two stalls of the car wash on
fire as
well as draining into the sewer causing a explosion that knocked ajar the
manhole cover in the alley
between the car wash and the quick shop.
