Barn
Fire West Hazel Walnut Ridge - Jan 1, 2009
The Walnut Ridge Fire Department was called out New Years just after 3
AM to put out a fire on
West Hazel in Walnut Ridge that apparently started by arson or accident since
no power was
connected to the barn and other buildings connected.
Shortly after one AM Sunday morning, the Hoxie Volunteer
Fire Department was called out to the
Kennedy Trucking Garage Fire. The metal building was a total loss despite
the efforts of the Fire
Department due to the extreme heat that persisted inside the structure which
made it difficult to battle.
South
West Park Residential Fire - Jan 19, 2009
Shortly after 1:30 A.M. Tuesday morning, January 19, 2009, the Hoxie Volunteer
Fire Department was
dispatched to a structure fire on South West Park in Hoxie. The house was
abandoned without power
or other utilities turned on and without a resident. The fire department was
delayed at fighting the fire
waiting on ammunition to quit exploding making it safer to approach the structure.
While responding to a traffic accident on the Hwy 63
ByPass Hoxie Volunteer Fire Department No. 2
engine over turned at the junction of Hwy 63 and Hwy 67 in Hoxie.
Shortly after 4 P.M. the Hoxie Volunteer Fire Department
along with the Arkansas Excellent Transport
Ambulance and Medic One was dispatched to a traffic accident involving a transport
truck and a suv.
The SUV was parked on the shoulder of Hwy 63 South when a transport exited
Hwy 67 ByPass and
clipped the SUV resulting in the driver of the SUV being taken to the hospital.
The driver of the transport
truck wasn't injured in the accident and was able to drive away following
paperwork.
February 28, 2009 the Lawrence County Amateur Radio Club
had a ham fest at the Hoxie Community Center.
A ham fest isn't a bunch of folks gathered to consume a bunch of smoked ham
or bbq but rather a group of
individuals with a common interest in the electronic world of amateur radio
and communications. Dealers as
far as Kansas City, Kansas came to show off their wares with hopes of sales
as well as developing new
clientele for their electronics and radios. The Lawrence County Amateur Radio
Club is compiled with
various individuals ranging from physicians to school teachers and the retired
to the disabled with primary
interest in providing emergency communications when other communication venues
are not available due to
disaster or storm.
Shortly before 3:: P.M. the emergency services, Hoxie
Volunteer Fire Department, Walnut Ridge Fire
Department and Arkansas Excellent Transport, were called to just South of
the overpass on South
Highway 67 to the site where a woman had hit a patch of ice under the overpass
and lost control of
her vehicle and wound up in the ditch half submerged in the ditch. No one
was injured in the accident
and Cooks Wreckers of Walnut Ridge made little work of retrieving the vehicle
from the ditch.
The Walnut Ridge Fire Department was called out shortly
before 2:45 AM Wednesday morning
to a fully involved house fire on 435 Lawrence. The house was up for sale
and was uninhabited
pending sale. The Fire Department had the fire under control quickly.
Monday morning, March 23, 2009, emergency services were
dispatched to Hwy 67 South two and a
half miles south of Hoxie to a two vehicle accident. It was rumored that the
driver of the sedan had
fallen asleep and hit the mini van in the rear and the accident occurred without
personal injury to either participants.

The Walnut Ridge Emergency Services were dispatched to a fully engulfed presidential

by ambulance crew with a fire

Just before noon, Tuesday June 9, 2009, the Walnut Ridge

of the house.

in Hoxie on Hwy 67 North. The Fire Department had the fire extinguished rather
quickly and retained the scene of the fire for investigation concerning the
possibility of drug manufacturing in the trailer as the cause of the fire?

Saturday, October 24, 2009, the Iron Mountain Festival was a success again
and hundreds
