Guard
Unit Deployment - Jan 7, 2008
Monday morning, January 7, 2008, on the lawn of the
Robert E. Lee Armory National Guard building again saw the
deployment of the Unit's deployment to Iraq. While families held each other
close, old friends and neighbors stood
need to reassure their friend or loved one that they are supported here
at home. The buses that were taking our
heroes back to war drove down Highway 67 South into Hoxie saw hundreds of
citizens lining the road waving their
flags as a see ya later rather than a good bye. The Robert E. Lee Armory
National Guard Unit was deployed
previously October 10, 2003.
Just shortly before 9:30 PM the Walnut Ridge Volunteer
Fire Department and AET Ambulance was
called out to a vehicle accident that involved a transport truck and a SUV.
Luckily neither driver was
injured and were able to leave the scene of the accident on their own.

Friday, June 13, 2008, turned out to be a unlucky day for what appeared
to be a water snake

continual water, and
had found it's way to Hwy 67 South just one block from Main Street. The serpent
was dispatched
by a local citizen with help and the watchful eye of a Walnut Ridge Policeman,

Lawrence
County Amateur Radio Club's Field Day - June 29, 2008
The LCARC participated in Field Day Saturday afternoon, June 29, 2008
at their clubhouse at the Walnut Ridge Airport.
Field day is a world wide event where amateur radio operators, or hams,
make contact with other hams using minimum
equipment with Morse code, packet, single side band and other various communication
modes including some stations
operating QRP or with minimal power, some as low as a half watt. This
is also practice should there be the need for
communications in the event of a disruption of power or normal services
that we've all become reliant on.
Field day also allows clubs and individuals to gain awards and national
recognition from QST, a amature radio publication.
